Nominal Earth Day.

My faith in Earth and its kind:

"I believe in God, only I spell it Nature."
-Frank Lloyd Wright

And after turning off my dorm hall lights, recycling my papers and plastics... my looming styrofoam dinner eyes me, cross-eyed, delirious, above my paperback Walking by Thoreau. Is the hierarchy of goods surrounding me the cause of my writers' block? My endless wishlist of upgrades in vanity, ownership of beauty, knowledge... or whatever expertise I seek here at school is numbing, emotionless, and damaging.

Car windows are not mountain views, chlorinated pools are not streams, oceans, Kentucky bluegrass is not succulent. I accept responsibility, not to salvage or live as eco-missionary, but to keep others and future strangers walking.

My frustration with my school, state, country sets in...

"Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,
For strip-mined mountain's majesty above the asphalt plain.
America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea."
George Carlin

Meanwhile, go Lakers... especialemente Gasol.
